The symptoms usually associated with disorders of the anus are:  pain,  passage of blood,  the feeling of constantly needing to pass  motion, itching around the anal region and swelling in this area.

Pain : can be present only at the time of passing a motion or at any time. Causes include anal fissures which can also cause bright red rectal bleeding, spasm of the anal sphincter- which tends to cause very severe gripping pain that last for a minute or so, haemorrhoids can become inflamed and swollen and cause considerable pain, sometimes with associated bleeding. Rarely, an abscess can develop in this area and may also cause a swelling which is very tender.  Rarely cancer of the anus can occur and cause discomfort and pain.
